ABOUT ME
It all started at family gatherings. As a young girl, I constantly saw my father discuss, and many times argue, politics and news with my uncles. Seeing them become so heated and passionate over current events sparked my curiosity. What could they possibly be talking about that is creating this much conversation among them?
These occurrences were my first doses of realizing news made a difference in people's lives and, quickly, I learned that I wanted to be an essential part of it.
Currently, I'm reporter/MMJ at News 12 The Bronx where I cover a wide range of stories from crime to human interest and everything in between. I thrive off breaking news and aim to be the source of information viewers turn to and trust.
A little about me personally… both of my parents were born in Iran making me a first-generation American. What's interesting about my family is that my mother is Jewish and my father is Muslim. Having parents of different religions often meant contrasting political opinions which exposed me to hearing out both sides of the same story at a young age. I take this life lesson with me wherever I go, especially at work, as it has helped me become a neutral journalist.
As for my professional background, my first job out of college was at FOX News Radio as a production assistant. During this time, I kept my bartending job from college and was working seven days a week at one point because I had $50,000 in student loan debt which I successfully paid off in less than two years after graduating. Having a strong work ethic is in my blood.
After FOX, I started working at ABC News Radio as an associate producer. After a total of two years in radio, I knew it was time to pursue my dream as a television news reporter. That’s when I was hired at WETM-TV, a small station in upstate New York located in Elmira. After the opportunity immersing myself in a different region in my home state for about two years, I’m back home in New York City reporting for News 12 The Bronx. I graduated from the College of Mount Saint Vincent which is also in the borough, so I’m back in the boogie down exploring it through a new lens.
